It s time for OK CHIVE S 4th Annual Ball! This year- our event is held in OKC and the theme is geared to help some of our most generous first responders. The volunteers with the Laverne Fire Department. (Did someone say Fireman ) Get your tickets here ! https: okchive.ticketbud.com boots-and-ladders Usually we call them for help- and they come without hesitation. Now they need our help- and we won t hesitate either. (Psst- for the next 10 days- get discounted ticket prices- right here https: okchive.ticketbud.com boots-and-ladders ) In March, the panhandle across northwest Oklahoma was evacuated as wildfires were scorching the heartland. The fires raged through the acreage destroying nearly everything in the path. Unable to round up cattle, livestock and other possessions, the small town of Laverne became too familiar with devastation. The small volunteer organization is in desperate need of monetary funds to replace lost equipment and supplies from the natural disaster. On August 19th, come prepared to raise a glass and raise some money to rebuild and honor the Laverne Volunteer Fire Department and all proceeds go to them. As prior years, we encourage a theme. This year, get out your cowboy boots and sundresses. We want to spend the evening enjoying songs played by local artists, dancing on the floor and making a toast with new friends.

4. Float & Fly - An Arm Balance Workshop

Arm balances can be empowering postures that teach us not only about our inner strength, but about our innate playfulness, courage, and our ability to create lightness and space. Students often over-rely on force and brute strength when working on these poses, rather than understanding the mechanics and leverage of arm balances. Are you still developing the necessary strength and flexibility to practice these postures? A good understanding of correct alignment will help you practice them with integrity and without injury. Join Dean Montgomery for this two hour workshop where you will spend the first 45 minutes moving through a Power Yoga flow-based sequence exploring basic arm balances and the mechanics behind them. You will then spend the remainder of the workshop breaking down floating back floating forward, Bakasana (crow pose) and side crow, Eka Pada Koundinyasana (EPK 1 & 2), Mayurasana (peacock pose), floating chaturanga, and more. You will learn the mechanics behind floating as well as how to prep for these arm balances. This is recommended for students with a more physical practice or anyone who would like to go in that direction. However, no arm balance experience is required. Dean Montgomery started yoga as a way to relieve back pain and learned that yoga was a great workout that connects the body and breath and sharpens the sword. Yoga gives him the ability to continue to be physically active in life. Dean is an 18 year veteran of the Tulsa Police Department and enjoys his yoga workout and continues to grow in his practice, and looks forward to continue to grow in his yoga practice and encourages other to challenge themselves in their yoga practice and in life. Dean is an RYT200 graduate of The Melting Spot s Power Vinyasa Yoga School & has recently begun teaching in The Melting Spot s Power Vinyasa Yoga School as well. Cost of the workshop is $25 early bird or $30 at the door. Spots are limited, so reserve your spot asap.
